Breaking the chain of addiction and re-offending
Steps2Recovery is a charity that supports those who’ve entered the criminal justice system as a result of drug and alcohol dependence.
Who We Are
Step2Recovery is a residential rehabilitation charity that improves the lives of those leaving the Criminal Justice system whose lives have been devastated by addiction.
It provides therapeutic and practical support through our intensive 12-week program — blending clinical treatment, group therapy, step work and therapeutic support — our clients move from crisis to stability and, ultimately, to long-term recovery, breaking the cycle of addiction, homelessness and re offending.
Our team of qualified counsellors, mentors and volunteers provide a safe, supportive therapeutic environment to support our clients to improve the quality of their lives and fulfil their potential without the use drugs or alcohol.
Anyone including individuals and agencies can refer to us by calling emailing or filling out a referral form. We are a charitable service, so all support provided is free at the point of entry.

What we do
We deliver a fully residential, evidence-based treatment programme that lasts twelve weeks and includes group therapy, individual counselling, workshops, lectures, mindfulness, well-being and social activities.
We deliver our programme through a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Trauma informed Care, Psychodynamic Therapy and Person-Centred care. Whilst in treatment all clients are introduced to the wider 12 Step Recovery community and attend mutual aid meetings to further develop the process of establishing a network of support.
All clients are provided with an individual therapist to support them through the programme and receive one formal session per week. They are also allocated a buddy for the first two weeks as a single point of contact for support.
Those within the criminal justice system often face issues of insecure housing and homelessness. As a central focus of our work, we ensure that all clients who graduate successfully from our program have secured housing when they leave us. If clients cannot secure housing with our support on completion of our program, they can access long term supported housing with our partner- Kairos Community Trust.
Our program is free at the point of entry. Individuals, agencies, families and loved ones can refer to us by filling out the referral form on our web site.

Why It Matters
Evidence clearly demonstrates that prison is an ineffective way of dealing with issues such as addiction and homelessness which often cause reoffending. We know from our outcomes that, if people can be given help at the point where they are motivated to make changes in their lives the cycle of addiction and the associated criminal offending can be halted.
The board of Trustees and the Therapeutic team at Steps2 Recovery have many years of lived and professional experience in the field of addiction and have built an evidence-based program that reflects this. All therapists are Accredited Members of the BACP.
We have developed a service that includes the most effective and impactful solutions which are driven by compassion, dignity and respect.
Addiction can feel hopeless and for those suffering the sense of failure can be overwhelming. The most important message we aim to deliver is that addiction is not self-inflicted and that it is treatable. There are huge numbers of people that find recovery, learn to manage their condition and go on to live inspiring and fulfilling lives.
At Steps2 Recovery, we give our clients the knowledge and skills needed to go on to fulfil their potential and lead purposeful, positive lives free of crime and addiction.
