The Steps2Recovery Annual Golf day took place on a slightly wet and windy May 12th at Kingswood Country Club in Surrey. However, this didn’t prevent nearly 60 supporters of the charity enthusiastically taking part in some great golf before going on to enjoy lunch and a fundraising auction – auction items donated included a ‘one off’ designer dress, international rugby and cricket tickets, theatrical evenings out and signed rock and pop memorabilia.

At the lunch Trustee Harriet Stevens brought people up to date with developments at Step2Recovery and went on to detail the cost of treatment (about half that of keeping someone in prison). Steps2Recovery graduate John Todd went spoke very movingly about his own experiences of addiction, offending and the prison system. He talked about Steps’ unique approach and explained how the programme had helped to transform his life. Harriet worked with auctioneer, Simon Hall, to give the auction a target and it went on to successfully raise enough to put two clients through treatment.

The day was a great success all round and when entry costs, competitions, a raffle and the auction were combined almost £14,500 had been raised – a £6000 increase on 2016!
