Our Team
Staff & Clinical Team
The team at Steps2Recovery is close-knit and passionate about abstinence-based, 12 Step recovery and we work to ensure that our clients, who often come to us directly from prison, are met with warmth and compassion.
The counselling team members are all highly qualified, recovery-focused therapists. They deliver group therapy and 1:1 counselling – their own lived experience informs the ways in which they work with our clients.

Max Smith
Lead Therapist
Max has been part of the team at Steps2Recovery since 2022. He is passionate about creating a safe, compassionate space where people feel heard, valued, and supported to make meaningful change in their lives. Max believes strongly in each person’s capacity for growth and works with empathy, honesty, and respect at the heart of his practice. Outside of work, he enjoys long dog walks and music, both of which help him recharge and stay grounded.

Michelle Moriarty
Therapist
Michelle is a Counsellor at Steps2Recovery. After overcoming over 25 years of addiction, she transformed her life, shifting from a corporate career to becoming a dedicated psychotherapist. Michelle is passionate about helping others as she was helped during her darkest moments. Michelle loves her work at Steps2Recovery and has previously contributed at The Perry Clayman Project, while also volunteering at a homeless charity.

Jason Kremer
Therapist
Jason is a Gestalt trained therapist with an MSc in Psychology, and a graduate of the Steps2recovery programme.

Shera B.
Therapist
Shera is an integrative psychotherapist, trained in Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Narrative therapy, Psychodynamic and Transactional analysis, who understands that each person’s therapeutic journey is unique. Shera grew up in a multicultural family and having in different countries is especially interested in how personal and collective identities are formed. She has over 30 years experience in the area of addiction and currently work for Steps2recovery supporting clients and their loved ones throughout their recovery from substance abuse.

Roger Gilbert
Support Worker
Roger has over 40 years of experience in recovery and loves to give back what was so freely given to him. He welcomes the opportunity to support others to find a new way of living.

Orville Cunningham
Deputy Service Manager
Orville is a BACP accredited qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. His work focuses on supporting individuals through addiction recovery, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth, helping people feel heard, valued, and supported in their journey forward.

Romy Somerset
Administrative Support
Romy is currently studying for her Masters degree in Psychology at Birmingham University.
She is interested in criminal and forensic psychology.

Julien Diaz
Health & Wellbeing
Julien is a dancer, teacher and health coach, specialising in movement practises for health, wellbeing and resilience.
A graduate of Ballet Rambert, he has spent over 20 years helping people navigate emotional and physical blocks, to achieve a healthier, more joyful and sustainable relationship with their own bodies.

Tom Browne
Health & Wellbeing
Tom has worked as a writer, actor and director. He wrote the Channel 4 drama Brussels and the feature films The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz and Radiator which he also directed. Radiator was released in the UK and played at many festivals internationally winning multiple awards. Tom was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Critics Circle and Evening Standard Film Awards. As an actor he has worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre and appeared in Hollywood blockbusters such as The Mummy Returns, Van Helsing and Shanghai Knights as well as TV and low budget films.

Penny Hughes
Poet
Penny teaches creative writing as a tool for transformation in her work at addiction, domestic abuse and human rights charities.

Martin Johnson
Support Worker
Martin is a graduate of Steps2Recovery and is a support worker.
Trustees
Our trustees, all in recovery themselves, are a supportive group who bring a range of skills to the organisation and, without exception, play an active part in the running and development of Steps2Recovery.

Bradley Bilgore
Trustee / Treasurer
Bradley has 40 years leadership experience, managing risk and high-performance teams. As a senior executive he has managed the execution of complex corporate and regulatory change projects involving many people and large budgets.

Sophie Molins
Trustee / Chair of Trustees
Sophie is a Group work Practitioner (IGA). Curator, photographer, filmmaker, anthropologist and New York Times and Arts Council award-winning artist, with a long history working in education, addiction and climate change.

James Ohene-Djan
Trustee
James is Professor of Computer Science at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a technology founder working across education, healthcare, and inclusive digital systems.

Amanda Copstick
Trustee
Amanda is an experienced counsellor with over 20 years working in drug and alcohol services and almost 30 years in personal recovery. Her professional background includes psychodynamic counselling, anger management, domestic violence work, safeguarding, group facilitation, and recovery planning.

Lesley Hart
Trustee
Lesley spent 26 years working across central government in finance, senior management and policy roles. Supporting change in the delivery of public services she has worked on projects to improve the uptake of IT and partnership working across the public sector. Leaving the civil service as a founder trustee she took on a practical role in the set up and management of Steps2Recovery. She is a passionate advocate for addiction recovery and personal change.

Anna is a BAFTA and Olivier Award nominated actress who has starred in numerous productions on stage, film and television. Anna has been a Patron of Steps2Recovery since its inception.
